This will be a (mostly) acoustic and intimate set—just me, some guitars, some old songs, new songs and some in-between songs. Let's relax, unwind and sing out loud, together, under the St. Augustine evening-sky. 🌙✨

Mark your calendars, bring your friends, and let’s make it a night to remember!

Ohm Radio interview and the debut of a new, unfinished song

While I was in Charleston a few weeks ago for the Tin Roof show, I went on Ohm Radio (96.3 FM) to talk about a multitude of things: the show, the record I have now been working on for 5 years 😳, the Charleston creative community, and more.

While I was there, I also debuted an unfinished track, “Playboy”, from the upcoming record. We can see the light at the end of the tunnel!

Matt Megrue & Hibiki (Saturday, May 24 At The TIN Roof [Charleston, SC])

Charleston, South Carolina, oh how I have missed you!

It feels incredibly surreal to say that it has been over 5 years since the last time I played Charleston, in February of 2020, for the release of The Mourner’s Manual. It was such an awesome night: amazing audience, great friends, new album out, hopes were high……and then COVID (womp womp)

A lot can change in half-a-decade, so I figure now would be a great time to catch-up, yea? Prior to the release of my next record, some friends and I will be doing a set at the legendary Tin Roof on Saturday, May 24! We’ll be playing some new songs for the first time, some old songs and everything in-between!

And if that’s not enough: the unequalled, untouchable and incomparable HIBIKI will be joining in on the fun as well!

Would absolutely love to hang with you on the 24th!

Matt Megrue and The Key Problems cover "Dakota" by The Stereophonics

"Dakota" is one of my all-time favorite songs by The Stereophonics. I can't imagine a more perfect song. So, during the Quarantine of 2020, I called up my buddies: Brendangerous (bass), Seanarchist (keys) and Trentin Quarantino (guitar) to see if they would be down to track a version of this amazing Stereophonics song. They, obviously, obliged.

Also, I would like to make mention that: while not making an appearance in the video as a member of The Key Problems, Kyle Polk (of Unisphere Recordings) was very much a key (pun intended) contributor, tracking drums and delivering a fantastic performance of the song.

--- ABOUT SHITSVILLE USA SESSIONS ---

One of my goals for 2022 is to finish some of the things I started while quarantined in 2020. Here is one such project: The Shitsville USA Sessions.

Shitsville USA is my recording studio and, at one point, was based in Charleston, South Carolina. These days, Shitsville USA is less of a physical space and more of a bag of recording gear that I tote with me wherever I go so that I can continue to record, wherever it is that I may be.

Enjoi,

Matt

Matt Megrue & The Key Problems cover William Prince's "Wasted"

Wasted is a song by William Prince that I first heard on NPR All Songs Considered and it grabbed me immediately. I began recording this version of the song in quarantine while still living in Charleston but finally finished in The Spring of 2022 on a balcony in Williamsburg, Brooklyn.

While not making an appearance in the video as a member of The Key Problems, Kyle Polk (of Unisphere Recordings) was very much a key (pun intended) contributor, tracking drums and delivering a fantastic mix of the song.

So if you haven't heard this song before, I hope you enjoy. If you have, I hope I did it justice. It is one of those songs that I didn't write, but truly wish I had.

'til next time,
Matt
